“Chalet die Gletscher”
The three storey architect designed chalet, built in 2008, is luxuriously finished and appointed and is a blend of traditional chalet design lines and twenty first century glazing and convenience. The chalet is surrounded by mountains which are still snow capped during summer – and the views from every room are spectacular.
All rooms have air locked doors and windows and under floor central heating. The saloon [living room] also has a wood fireplace.
The chalet has three double sized bedrooms – two with double beds and the third has two large [90x200] single beds.
The top floor master bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, with shower, washbasin and toilet and a luxurious bath in which you can view the mountains while soaking in the bath after a days walk. The master bedroom also has a small dressing room and front balcony with spectacular mountain range views. A day bed can be used for day reading and a young child’s bed at night.
Also on the top floor is a small study with desk for internet use or writing – and a day bed for reading - which can also be used as a child’s bed at night.
The middle floor has the living rooms – a large modern kitchen with fan forced oven, microwave, 5 set hob, built in fridge freezer, dishwasher, and ample cupboard and pantry storage space.
Adjoining the kitchen is a ski raum for inside skis, boots, poles, and other ski gear storage – and a cloakroom with toilet and laundry with separate washer and dryer.
At the front of the kitchen is a large open plan salon with separate sitting and dining areas – and all with spectacular panoramic glacier, valley, and Mountain views framed by large full length floor to ceiling windows. The sitting room is comfortably furnished with an L shaped sofa and recliner armchair.
The dining table can comfortably seat 6-8 including children
The ground or basement floor has the two remaining double bedrooms.
The larger one has a double bed with double wardrobe chest and 10 storage draws. This bedroom has large sliding doors that open out onto a covered terrace – and views of the mountain and Rhone valley from the bed.
The third bedroom is on the same floor and is set up as a bunk room with two large [90x200] single beds – and also has wardrobe, chest, etc and sliding doors to the outdoor terrace – both beds have mountain views.
The large shower room is on the same floor as these two bedrooms – and has a walk in shower, toilet, and washbasin.
Linen and towels for up to 8 guests is provided and a housekeeper does a thorough clean both during and at the end of your weeks stay.
Lauchernalp Village – winter:
Situated on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch-Beitschhorn region, Lauchernalp is the main ski area in the Lötschental Valley which runs off the Rhone Valley on the opposite side to Verbier and Zermatt.
Lauchernalp is above the town of Wiler, located 5 km from the southern end of the Lötschberg rail tunnel [which also carries car trains] and an hourly post bus from the train completes an easy air/airport train link from Basel and Bern. Geneva is a 2 hour drive, or slightly longer by train, via Brig, and Zurich is a 3 hour drive. Whichever way you come, Swiss roads are excellent and the trains are the best in the world.
Developed from ancient mountain farming communities, Lauchernalp village has sunny south facing slopes, and magnificent valley, glacier and mountain views.
The nearby villages of Wiler and Kippel / Ferden, with charming narrow streets and ancient medieval twisted wooden houses surround the cable car that links the 2000 meter high Lauchernalp village with the villages in the valley below.
The Lotschental [“hidden valley”] valley is among the most beautiful in the Valais region and is located off the Rhone valley between the Berener and Walliser Alps in the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Jungfrau – Aletsch – Bietschhorn.
At Lauchernalp Skiing is from the summit [3000metres] to Lauchernalp village, over 33 kilometres of trials, suitable for all classes of skiers – particularly experienced skiers. The ski lifting infrastructure is the best available – and waiting times for lifts are minimal on most days and times – a weather proof gondola completes the rise to the summit – and to a potential 6 kilometre non stop ski to Wiler village at the cable car base.
